If i have the time i like to run to the craft store to pick them out to make sure that it is sewn bound has a smooth surface to take cheap inkive been bitten before with accidentally ordering more coarse off white paper versions but thats not nearly as bad as receiving a sketchbook with pages that fall out as soon as you turn them

The pro art book i received was bound together which was a big relief as the book of my last four months was glued together and falling apart

I also use sharpie markers a fair amount and while they dont mark the page underneath they do bleed through to the other side of the paper

Ive used light watercolors and prismacopic markering to add shadows or highlights however a decent amount of water can cause pages to warp and wrinkle and its not easy to resmooth
