However having the iphone mounted in a tripod adapter that has rubber padding in the phone holder might have something to do with reducing noise

Mounting something like a pointandshoot or gopro directly to the panning head would probably introduce more noise

In this case the camera is also closer to the panning head than when using the iphone adapter

For my purposes the small amount of noise from the head wont make any difference since ill probably dub music to most of my videos

It doesnt make much sense to me to be recording audio while panning with the microphone continuously changing direction and the probability that the audio source peoples voices are coming from all directions
