I use tetra floating cichlid pellets with the feeder which pass through the opening with no issues
I returned it and was pleased with the reponse
The first meal is repeated at same hour each day which coincides with the time you set the feeder

Fair price press button at your desired start time and 24 hours later it feeds again

I bought this almost 2 years ago and just changed the batteries but forgot how to program it threw away the box
