Tailbone protection is virtually non existent.
The hip padding is significantly below the tops of my hips (iliac crests), the part they are supposed to protect. Neither the xs nor s fit me as a 115lb.

What i like about these impact shorts in particular is the amount of coverage the quality of the padding and the fit
These are quality and yes they add a little bulk
I doubt the xxxl would fit even a 36 waist as the velcro might pop open
Otherwise over all quality is good for other sports and activities
Price
Comfy and well worth the price you may find some cheaper but i feel you get what you pay for in this case anyway
But if youre looking for both good pad coverage and a good price docooler wins

I have done exactly this a few times when i needed extra padding more than the docooler shorts provided and they worked great
Will update after actuall spills taken as well as to update durability and comfort
They have more coverage with thicker padding at a cheaper price
