This is not a splitter it connects to the single existing inwall cable on its male end and sends the output from 4 of the wires to one female jack and the other 4 to the other most network applications only need 4 wires anyway in the proper order to pass ip signals

What i dont understand though not being a network engineer i guess is why the 8wire connector is the male end and the 4wire connectors are the female end

Second you must be using 10100 mb ethernet it will not work with 1 gig ethernet
