    Perhaps it can cut down on background noise if you engage the pad and then get really close to the mic to compensate but still just turn down and accomplish the same thing

    A correct more useful problem solver would be to install a limiter switch that would clip or suppress overly loud sounds peaks at a prescribed level

    Generally a pad is found on pro audio gear and used when the input level of a particular source is too strong more or less continuously and you are in danger of overdriving the equipment ie creating sound distortion

    Anyhow those are my thoughts on why i think youre paying extra to get features that probably arent that necessary and on how they chose a simple but incorrect solution to a problem
