Pros & Cons
Pros
Great flattening plate. Channels the * away with its surface design. Pet peeve is with some woodworkers who complain their flattening stone/plate is junk because it’s all clogged up.
It also works superbly at flattening my japanese water-stones. Works great for setting bevels, flattening waterstones/jnats, and raising slurries. Works as a lapping stone for my other water stones and does the job very efficiently.
The feel is ok when sharpening knives. It's more of a splash and go type of stone easily sharpen any dull knives.
The atoma 400 diamond plate is a good flattening plate for 500+ grit whetstones and can also serve as a coarse sharpening plate. The 400 is less aggressive and will wear away less of the stone.
Cons
The price is too good to be true because it's not true. Sent it back for a refund.
Highlights
Quality
Mostly use it for flattening polishing stones but the build quality is spectacular
Packaging/appearance
It arrived in good condition and is the real deal in its original atoma branded packaging
It left my 12k 12000 grit stone perfectly smooth right out of the package

My particular whetstones were so 34unflat34 that it took quite a bit of elbow grease time and effort to get them flat

The raised clusters of diamonds allow swarf to run beneath the cutting surface so it doesn’t load up and become ineffective and need to be rinsed off

It appears that when the plate is too worn you can replace the top mil with a new diamond “sheet”

Further for knife sharpening this hogs off material so well so you don’t need to spend an hour on a 1k stone to get the bevel set
