The factory scope base for the mini 14 has that notch cut out for the casings to eject since it sits way lower which made it hard to mount anything on it but this scope base sits up higher allowing the spent casings to eject without needing half the rail to not exist

Its also longer which allows for more placement options for your optics

The height allows you to see your factory iron sights through the bottom of it though they become much harder to use

You might be better off just getting a pair of flip up iron sights if youre worried about having a backup

It is a little cumbersome to mount because the bolt charging handle on the mini 14 gets in the way when accessing the screws on the right side
