We mounted this on a tree about 8 from the front door and disconnected the door bell

The chime also sounds when one of us goes up or down the front walk which is also good for dog management it rings often enough during the day that it isnt a novel sound and she doesnt associate it with a stranger who needs to be mauled by a 20lb ball of fluff

The only annoyance is that you have to repair it every time the power goes out so you have to cycle thru all the amazingly annoying songs to find the one or two that dont make you want to throw it across the room
