    It was originally known as mosquito arch, and it does indeed resemble an insect with a long needle nose.

    The state park service switched to the more noble sounding name in the late 70's i think.

    Nice scenery, we rented a 4 wheel drive specifically for this visit but the roads were paved and the trails that were off road were all closed by the park so we wasted our money on the 4 wheel drive.

    You could spend a half day or a full day hiking the trails, so many trails were covered in white or red sand.
