    If the on-camera unit is in trx mode, it doesn't trigger the remote unit.

    It has to be in tx mode.

    Despite receiving some things, the tx mode is supposed to drain the batteries more slowly than the trx mode.

    On the other hand, the remote unit needs to keep its receiver on continuously, since when a signal arrives it needs to fire the flash within a millisecond to fit within the moment that the camera's shutter is open.
