I did that because although you want the perches to fit snug i thought it was pushing the bars outward too much and eventually the perch may snap the bar it was attached too

Well built easy to assemble i had to unassemble and reassemble the parts where the directions were not detailed enough to identify rightleft or updown but a cordless drill and a hex bit make it a lot easier

We found the assembly video on amazon very helpful for the details of the assembly since the printed directions are all pictures with no text
