We've only had the desk for a short time, so keep that in mind as you read this...Build quality:The desk is made from tubular steel and plastic components (with, I'm sure, some aluminum in the piston that holds open the desktop). My sense while putting it together is that it's very sturdy and I can't imagine what my daughter could do (short of somehow melting some plastic) to damage the desk. It is stout and very stable feeling. The legs all have little screw-out levelers, in case you have wonky floors.Assembly:I'd say assembly took me maybe half an hour. 90% of it can be done with the included Allen wrench, but you will need a phillips head screw driver for the screws that hold the seat bottom to the chair. Why they didn't make those use the same Allen wrench is beyond me, but a very minor quibble, really. I got it together with no assistance, although there is a spot or two where it might have been helpful to have a 2nd set of hands.Sizing the desk/chair:The desk and chair both have locking mechanisms in the legs that you use to set the height. In order to start back at the bottom, you have to pull them all the way to the very top and then you can push them back down - pretty simple, really. It turns out that my 5-year old daughter needs everything totally bottomed out (she's on the small side for her age), but it's pretty comfortable for her. Given how much taller it can be, I think it should last her for 4-5 years pretty easily.The desk/work space:The desk is actually a bit bigger than I imagined (which is great) - plenty big enough for a sheet of paper and a book to sit side by side (not a huge book, perhaps). The surface of the desk can be set to a slight slope or to level via some little pop-up lifters inside the desk - my daughter figured it out in 2 seconds and it seems to work pretty well. The piston that offsets the weight of the desktop is set VERY close to the point where it would lift the top... in fact, when she sets the desk to it's flat mode, if she closes the lid with enough force to bounce the lid a little, it will open back up. Just a tiny bit of weight on top will keep it closed though, so it isn't a real issue for us.Inside the desk there is plenty of room for paper, pencils, etc. The storage area is made of plastic, but it feels pretty thick to me... I don't imaging it will be subject to much strain, etc., so it should last just fine.Kids impression:My daughter absolutely loves the desk. The chair, while feeling plenty sturdy, is light enough for her to move it around on carpeting with no problems. There are pencil trays up at the top of the desk surface which are great for keeping crayons or whatever from rolling off and there's a paper/book stop at the front/center of the desk surface, so you can set a book there for reading, etc.What would I change:I wish the desk came with or that Wymo sold seat pads for the chair. I have a feeling it could be a little stiff for sitting at for long stretches of time. There's also an accessory well at the back/center of the desk surface (you can see the pink spot in the pictures on the site) which I think is meant for a matching desk lamp... I wish Wymo was retailing that as well. I'd definitely be adding those to my shopping cart if they were available.Overall, I feel like this was a great price for a desk that ought to last my daughter through primary school.
