    I can amply magnetize small tools, bits and fasteners, but the demagnetization process only works up to about 80% tops.

    Demagnetizing is often tricky even when you know how to do it the right way, but the best advice is to work down the shaft and work slowly, then slowly pull it away toward the off side (to the right as viewed from the printed front).
