Bottom line is that if you need a new hd this one would not disappoint you for a mechanical drive

Its a solid drive the speeds are noticeable going from a slower toshiba drive but the sounds it makes are loud rather frequent and pretty distracting

Not sure if the wd blue drives make these kinds of sounds but looking back i would have probably preferred the blue version

Data integrity is very important to me id much rather toss out and replace a failing drive than have to resurrect lost data

So if you are getting a thumping noise every 5 seconds then it is normal

Apparently people have found the software that turns off that feature which stops the noise
