As often applies, the drive has installed basic backup software for windows and can be used with apple's time machine and formatted as exfat which can be read from and written to under both systems alike.

The drive came formatted as ntfs by default for use with windows and there is a ‘start here’ application (for mac and windows) included so you can download some tools and register the drive.
