I've been edge-gluing a lot of cedar boards, and needed something to scrape off the glue that squeezes out. I've never bought anything in the scraper line before except those flexible flat thingies that clearly would not be manly enough for a job like this. The beefy Warner scraper was just the ticket. It's got a nice sturdy reversible carbide blade that should stay sharp way longer than plain steel. My wood is fresh, so I don't have to worry about brittle carbide striking any nails.In practice, the Warner scraper has worked pretty well. It turns out that the best time to scrape the glue is after it dries to sort of a gel consistency. Scraping earlier just spreads the glue around, and if you wait too long, it hardens to a yellowish diamond-like glaze that screams amateur and would probably stop bullets. The Warner will take it out, but the surrounding wood may suffer some collateral damage.It would be nice if Amazon sold replacement blades for this tool. They're available elsewhere, but the places I've found have either big minimum shipments or hefty shipping charges.I would give it five stars if the gunky glue didn't build up on the blade. It's not fair to blame to tool, but otherwise I would have to blame myself.   Read Less

Unlike cheaper scrapers, this one has a front handle, which improves tool control. The carbide blade is held on securely and it's easy to change.All 2.5 carbide scrapers use the same type of universal replacement blade, just like all razor blade scrapers use similar replacement razor blades. The carbide blades are reversible, and quite sharp. If you don't try to scrape really hard materials, they last a surprisingly long time.You can use this tool to scrape paint, wood, plastic, and other softer things. I use mine primarily as a wood-working tool. For example, we have an oak butcher-block kitchen table which needs smoothing every few years. 15 minutes of scraping with this tool makes for a smooth and clean surface. If you haven't used this type of scraper, use both hands for aggressive material removal. One hand presses down on the front handle, and with your other hand on the handle, pull the tool toward you. If you're scraping wood, go with the grain. As it's scraping, miniature wood shavings pile up, rather than sawdust if you were sanding.The only thing this tool lacks is a cap for the blade when not in use.   Read Less
