Pros & Cons
Pros
The vortex seems to be a reasonable quality and value. It is solidly built. The lifetime guarantee is a supreme value.
The most important is that i can put it in my backpack. Light weight and compact. Not too heavy. Good price, very lightweight.
Always ended up using the fine focus anyways. Takes less room and it's faster to move. The focus is much nicer than the meopta, which was too stiff. Single knob to set tension and lock the ball.
This lets you get a good look at birds on your feeder or insects perched close to you. I monitor eagle nest and can get a great clear upclose look from 500 yds away. The setup for some of my nests are in dense wooded areas with lots of limbs, trees an... Read More

The vortex performed flawlessly during several hours of birding in difficult lighting conditions of overcast skies and a lot of diffuse reflections off the water in one locations where the line of sight resulted in essentially backlit birds

The tripod lacks a real lock for the quickrelease plate and vortex makes the cya recommendation not to crry it locked onto the tripod like everyone else in the known universe does
