Pros & Cons
Pros
The dripping vietnamese coffee takes about 20 minutes to make. Works well for mugs wider than the average coffee mug. The flavor is outstanding. One serving is strong and can be shared by 2 people.
I get a lot of sediment above the filter, but i don't think that is impacting the final product. It probably could be minimized by being more careful when adding the water. The resultant coffee mud seems to keep the sediment down.
Did a little research and purchased an 11-ounce (large) thang long phin. This is especially true since i typically do two rounds with two phins (x4 clean-up) customer service is as good as it gets. They are very caring about their customers.
Cons
I hope the seller fixes it. I'm not sure if my unit is just defective or if i'm missing something. Was hopeful to receive a response before posting but have not.
There is about a centimeter or two centimeter gap of space between the inner wall of the cylindrical body and the outer ring of the press. It starts out great but after about 30 seconds it will only drip out of 2-3 holes on the left. It stops dripping... Read More
X-large (15 oz) size is too big and wide. It bends like a paperclip. The gravity insert is too small and leaves a large gap between the insert and the side of the container.
Highlights
Quality
I purchased this for my son for christmas and was very impressed by the quality of manufacturing
Quality product that had really good instructions
I purchased with the assumption that this problem had been addressed considering there were many reviews and it was a known issue
Id recommend avoiding the 11oz size and sizing up or down or opting for a screw down version
Price
I always enjoyed vietnamese coffee but the prices are ridiculous…
Packaging/appearance
I tried to return for and exchange but amazon requested it be returned in original packaging which i threw out last week
Competitiveness
It took about 20 minutes to make a 12oz cup but it was worth the wait
The 11oz version solves that issue as it is enough to create a delicious tasting large size iced vietnamese coffee
I bought an 11oz size and had troubles with it for a long time
These filters are made of highquality materials

Original review per some older reviews the gap between the gravity press and the side walls of the phin is very large and as soon as you add water the grounds float up around the edges

Sure you can get these cheaper at your local asian market but take a look — there’s often a warning on them that says they contain harmful metals that can get in your coffee
