It does stay open but it would be nice if it laid out of the way a little more when it is opened

My other issue was in several places in a crowd i wanted to quickly switch to backpack mode this is not a quick process

Only thing keeping it from 5stars the zippers for the main compartment open down each side from the top with the bottom of the bag not opening so you sort of have to hold the main flap open while you load it
