The butane gas is contained in a sealed plastic unit insert fits right into the old unit that you take out and either put away or discard

Just like others mention use a quality butane to avoid any issues and if you want to see how much fuel you have you can use a flashlight on the opposite end to clearly see how much liquid you have at the bottom

Once i carried a zippo in my pocket and the gas leaked making a burn spot on my leg

It doesn’t hold enough butane even with the fuel delivery turned down mostly all the way it doesn’t last awhile
