However they are not as strong a magnet as the original key we got

These worked while the ones on my fridge did not

After reading someone elses review that they dropped it and it came apart it gave me an idea

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

The reason it wont work with every brand the way its shipped is because the polarity of the magnets may not match

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Solution 1 the magnet should work holding it by the bottom instead

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Any strong magnet will have an affect but it will only open the lock if it is in the right position at the right angle etc

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

You cant just put any strong magnet in front of the lock the magnetic field has to be lined up and polarized correctly northsouth fields

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

The piece inside the lock is not metal but another magnet so the key has to interact properly to unlatch
