The original had a sticker insert on it that practically advertised its function

Any strong magnet will have an affect but it will only open the lock if it is in the right position at the right angle etc

You cant just put any strong magnet in front of the lock the magnetic field has to be lined up and polarized correctly northsouth fields

The piece inside the lock is not metal but another magnet so the key has to interact properly to unlatch

Kind of bizarre but you basically have to put the rounded side up against the cabinet to unlock
