Pros
Most configuration can be done through the gui. The amount of possibilities and functionality in this little black box is astounding.
Can be flashed with open source firmware. The qos is great too.
This device is very capable, and performs very well. It is also capable of passive poe power, which i am not using currently.
All for work. Very impressed. Once you discover this whole other world that's available, and you want a better router, you quickly realize that you don't know jack about how to do all this. Very pleased with this router.
Small footprint is nice. This is an actual boundary router appliance, don't let the tiny form factor fool you.
Cons
Vyatta's firewall is ham-* and brain dead. Instructions are incorrect for setup.
Device is marketed and advertised as a gigabit router. On every other fw product i've worked on in the past 20+ years in the industry, the default fw action is drop.
I have a 150mbps cable internet connection, and the download speed only reaches 30mbps with the edgerouter. It does not have the capability of providing gigabit speeds. Without the router 970mbps. Does not support ipv6 connectivity.
