Pros & Cons
Pros
Receive is great with a mag mount antenna and far outperforms my uv-5r that gets overloaded. I wish the radio did come with the 1800 mah battery that the baofengs do so i also ordered a couple of the 3200mah battery packs to give me a longer operating... Read More
It works with chirp (to an extent, support is still in beta at this time) works with the k-connector or whatever they call the headset/programming jack accessories, but will not work without an adapter with antennas since it's the opposite *, if that'... Read More
This radio fits the bill. This ht is awesome.
Case feels a lot more solid. Have a tighter snap, and the underbutton feels less likely to slip out of place.
This inexpensive radio is worth buying. In all seriousness this radio is a smoking deal, it is solid and easy to use. Awesome seller, and a great product.
Cons
There is a loud, annoying electronic clicking sound each and every time it breaks squelch. It is so loud and obnoxious that it is impossible to ignore. Not very impressive.
Highlights
Quality
Build quality seems solid and the speaker sounds great
Programming with the included cable was a snap with chirp
But with the radios im used to using this is not normal
Build quality is about one full notch above the baofeng radios
Price
Scan speed is slow but for this price you cant expect much
Packaging/appearance
I got this to carry in my jeep so i wouldnt be too concerned if it gets dropped in the mud
The tyt thuv88 is pretty much the same radio as the retevis rt85 which i bought two of from amazon
Competitiveness
I had no issues at all programming this radio using chirp once i switched over to my ftdi programming cable
I highly recommend paying the extra 20 and purchasing the authentic ftdi programming cable sold by btech
I am surprised that tyt has not matched the primary competitor in operational friendliness
This cable is a cheap copy of the more expensive ftdi cable commonly used for programming baofeng radios
