If the outlet is behind the units wasnt until pedestals were installed then the 4 depth of the surge protector combined with the length of the washer plug of another 4 resulted in moving the washer too far away from the wall

The protector allows you to secure the unit to the outlet but i was surprised to learn this is illegal in canada

My guess this has to do with fire safety should the device fail and short out

You would want to rip out the device quickly if it caught fire
