The fixture itself is very thin and can sit over the existing outlet plate but you will need to reinstall the outlets screw into it to make it secure to the wall

It also has a green strip at the top letting you know it is working and bedazzling the eyes at night when you wake up not knowing what the heck the green thing is that is staring at you
