We overcame the problem buy placing the base of a used stick in the hole alongside the new one

One hole holds the incense stick upright so the ashes land in the bowl

Its best to clean it after every use because the ash left behind by incense sticks makes it impossible to get fresh sticks in the little holes

It should be noted that with a holder like this youll want some fine tweezers or something similar to remove the tiny unburnt stumps from the holes when the inscence has burned
