In this book mary taylor simeti was the first author to write anything about her in english even remotely similar in length and detail to a typical academic monograph

Except perhaps for a few academic papers advancing imaginative theses the next work of substance to treat constances biography at any length and in english was jacqueline alios book queens of sicily 10611266 2018 though patricia skinner mentions constance in a brief entry in her book women in medieval italian society 5001200 2001

Travels with a medieval queen is essentially a memoir written around the story of constance of hauteville whose date of birth unfortunately is reported incorrectly

Ideally i would have preferred to see a conventional biography with less focus on the author who might have written something about her own travels as an appendix to the main text

There was ample opportunity for that given the virtual absence of a biography of constance before this work was begun in the late 1990s
