This model seems to perform comparably to the tp-link tl-wn822n high gain that i have been using.

This adapter is not plug-n-play for my laptop and requires running the setup wizard with the installation cd.

I was able to do plug-n-play installation on my desktop pc but the performance is very poor without the installation of the tp-link driver.

Overall, i am very happy with the adapter.

I tested the performance of this wireless usb adapter with my dell windows 10 laptop in a remote room of the house by using the speedtest.

Competitiveness

This is my third tp-link usb 3.

I switched to tplink after having a competitors fail due to heat.

I decided on the t4uhp because it claims to be a high-power model.

I just ran a test on speedtest.net and got performance slightly better than my rig is technically rated for (Cox cable, rated for 50Mbps down/5Mbps up). I don't always get that level of performance with this or any other adapter I've tried, but it's good to be in that neighborhood. I've sometimes gotten that level of performance from my old TP-Link Archer T2U , but not as reliably as with the TP-Link Archer T4UHP. For context, I live in a building with thick walls and notoriously tricky cell phone and wi-fi reception, and my router is probably 20 only feet away, but it is also on the far side of a wall.It's not perfect; sometimes it fails to connect/loses a connection for no obvious reason, but it's usually easy to get the connection back. I had some initial problems when first connecting the T4UHP because I didn't install the driver software. Since I installed the software & rebooted, however, it's been fairly smooth sailing. Note that installation is nothing more than plugging the included USB 3.0 cable into your computer and into the device, installing the software from the mini-CD (you should be able to get it from the TP-Link web site instead, but I didn't try), rebooting, and signing on to your local network.The biggest drawback of the T4U is that while the device itself isn't exactly big, it does look funny and take up space. Plus, it's attached to a cable, that can make it difficult to position easily. Mine is sitting on the corner of my desk (see photo; my desktop sits on the floor next to the desk) because I don't know where else to put it (or what to put it on top of). In addition, how the heck do you figure out what to do with the rabbit ears? Does TP-Link have a utility I don't know about that shows you reception in real time? (That's a real question, BTW. Is there such a thing?)Anyway, the T4UHP is a little pricey, but it works fairly well in my relatively difficult environment. It's a definite step up from the T2U dongle that came with my computer. A wired connection would obviously be better, but the T4UHP has not given me much to complain about. Read Less
