Isabelle wilkerson is a gifted writer and a thorough and astute researcher/historian. Her own life history is mentioned just enough to inspire me to see the depth of this story arc. Isabelle is the best history teacher i’ve ever experienced.

We need to understand why these quiet heroes risked everything to make a better way for their descendants. Weaving in stories and facts and statistics effortlessly. Each account brings many highs and lows, moments of happiness and sadness.
The coverage ( and likely social influences ) are far more recent than i had originally guessed.
