One of the best books i have read this year and if you enjoyed the iliad this is a look at the war as it probably would have happened and not just focusing on the heroes but on the grunts and the actual places that are mentioned are shown on a map or in photo

Rather it operates on the assumption that such a war was plausible if not factual

Strauss shows how accurately homer depicted bronze age warfare

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Anyone who read the iliad and was moved by it is sure to appreciate the trojan war

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

My knowledge on this topic was limited so i turned to barry strausss fine book entitled the trojan war

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

He states that the greeks did not attack troy because the trojans stole the beautiful helen but that perhaps more important was helens treasure which accompanied her as well as the embarrassment caused to the greeks and menelaus when paris took helen from the wife of an ally which broke royal precedents

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

His discussion of the trojan horse and the role of spies and deceit in bringing about the fall of troy are interesting

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Even if the book was intended for a popular audience the sensationalism is overdone
