Pros

A very good science fiction book. It is a realistic fiction compared to what was done at the time the book was written, but no less interesting. One thing i love about this book is its it manages to be very much a happy ending.

Arthur c. Clarke is a legend in sci-fi writing. This book is said to be clarke's personal favorite, and of books of his i've read, it's mine too. Arthur clarke.



Cons

Subplots detract from the main action, and in this case there is little enough of that to go around. The interpersonal relationships are shallow and robotic. All this is ignorable if only it had a semblance of a plot.

The book stomps all over chekhov's cardinal rule of drama - if you put a shotgun on the wall in the first act, it * well better go off in the third. My first problem with this book is its lack of centrality.
