Pros & Cons

Pros

This history of the world by jm roberts, former warden of merton college, oxford is a wonderful reference volume for anyone's library. This tome is an amazing reference for any history buff.

A historical atlas is a good companion to this book. Thankfully this book is free from any obvious political bias - no small feat when our academic institutions have become largely marxist reeducation camps.

The world in the title is that of humanity and roberts’ story begins with a detailed explanation of the origins of * sapiens. This book says much, especially in the first half, about what civilisation is and how the definition has been refined.

John morris roberts' history of the enlightenment has been updated by odd arne westad. Roberts focuses on empiricism and british enlightenment heroes.

Cons

The writing is stilted and unnecessarily wordy. Too many sentences start with it and the real subject of the sentence comes later. It uses really big word that no one really uses or understands.

Unless you take monotheism to be something very particular.

It is a very thick book so ive not finished it yet

For one it is extremely longwinded and can be a bit biased at times

For instance he does ancient egypt dirty and downplays almost all of their achievements besides medicine and to a point their religion

He does not even mention great achievements like the temple of karnak or luxorif i remember correctly and says that they had no great contribution to architecture which is absolutely ridiculous as well as their contributions in other areas
