This book is a life saver! I actually love that the book has no flashy colors or pictures. This book delivers!

The rules are explained in a succint manner and you are supposed to review the previous days lesson before starting the new one. The lessons are short enough that this isn't too burdensome. They also learn new skills in a methodical way.

The well-worn soft cover is a bit tattered, but i expect it to hold up for our fourth kid also. Started it in kindergarten and finished in first grade. My 3 year old learns along side her.

Cons

Opg has so many words on a page--every single page. The practice sentences are way too long, and overwhelm new readers. The disjointed stories are even worse.

    I tried phonics pathways but the pages are just way too busy and it would overwhelm her and shed hate her reading lessons

    Its very open and go you can just do one lesson a day the lessons are at the top very easy and thats that

    We dont do any of the extra index card work i just have her read the bold lines
