    This story is a compendium of all the factors leading up to the incredible surge in the flow of the colorado river through and beside the glen canyon dam, the measures taken by the people in charge of that dam, and the adventure undertaken by three experienced dory guides who exercised some questionable judgment about their route through the crystal rapid, yet who set a speed record which, i heard recently, has sincebeen broken by some kayakers who probably had direct permission to do so.
