To be sure, there are questions that are left unanswered about some of the characters, but i believe this was done intentionally so that the reader is put into the shoes of kyle.

The story is written from kyle's perspective and only allows the reader to see what kyle is seeing, it's an intentional literary move to keep some things unknown.

The main character doesn't feel comfortable with this and tries (feebly) to stop it.

This book does a fantastic job of comparing the old ways and the new, which is sad to me as there are people who still believe hitler had the right idea.
