Pros

It's a great sounding radio for its size. Works surprisingly well. Great starter radio for short wave. Comes with clock radio alarm.

It can easily fit into a suitcase for travel without taking up any more space than a man's modest shaving kit. Lots of hidden features are just a google search away.

The pl-880 is compact, but doesn't feel cheap at all. The rechargeable lithium is very good with decent energy to power the radio for some time. The mah mah mah pl is very lightweight, and battery lasts a long time.

Cons

Tuning knobs are sticky out of the box. Reception is not good, have to have radio in the right position to get good sound. No tuning.

If you have any static and touch the radio it discharges all settings! Everything needs to be reset. The battery symbol shows the battery is completely empty.

I found amazon to be the best for price

Attempting to be frugal i tried several 50 digital and analog radios

Again no radio is perfect but for the price this one is quite satisfying

Competitiveness

This radio is way better than the 600 series and it totally worth the higher price

Now that sony no longer makes short wave radios this is one of the very best of this size on the market

I considered the 990 but you dont get much more functionality or quality than the 880 for 100 bucks more

It almost feels analog none of the soft muting or chuffing which are common to several other models in the price range
