The base legs are solid maple. The grid top is a maple veneer. The deck appears to be solid hardwood, looks like birch. Not flimsy like so many others.

The blade remains sharp and still cuts clean and crisp after about 1000 cuts. Cuts in paper and vinyl are very smooth. This thing is built like a tank and looks good too.

Cons

Swingline product is lightweight, and uses a super cheap plastic covering in the upper-right corner area. This is pathetic.
