Felt super-big at first, but very comfortable with thin, no-show socks. (I am a consistent 8 1/2, and ordered a 39.5 on advice of the manufacturer.) Total Light Grey is a great neutral color -- almost white without being blinding white shoes. The color is lighter than it looks on the Amazon webpage. Although these gray canvas sneakers look more like a non-bright white than a true gray, I love the color because it goes with almost anything without blinding people with whiteness. They are cute and immediately comfortable. I was able to wear them for a full, first day without any discomfort. My only quibble is that the laces are slightly too short.About the sizing: The sizes on the product page drop down are sometimes wrong, so it helps to research European sizes without relying on them. For instance, my husband, who bought these for me as a Christmas gift, had to decide between a European 39 and 39.5, both listed as an American 8.5. Fortunately, he chose the larger size, which is clearly shown in a chart on the box as an 8.5. They fit me perfectly with ample room at the toes. That said, sometimes, in some styles and brands, I can wear a 9. I rarely can fit into an 8. You'll have to use your best judgment. A solid 8.5 and one that sometimes can size up, should order the 8.5 equivalent, a 39.5. If you can sometimes size down, you might find them too large. Obviously, the same advice applies no matter the size you wear.I love the wider toe box and the way it fits to my foot.
