Pros
I envy those who pick it up for the first time and are presented with a book that is not just this good on its own, but kickstarts a series (two, technically) that remains my favorite of all time. Read with kindle unlimited subscription.
The crew of a freighter find themselves hunted by both law and the underworld. As in so many stories i’ve loved, the “heroes” have to trespass to move the story along.
Good blend of sci-fi and fantasy. Nice contrast to the grim reality of the pandemic and the divisiveness of national politics. The setting isn't overly complex with the martian empire.
The main character isn't some overpowered superhero either. While this could be read as a standalone, i'm very interested in what happens to these characters next. The audiobook's narrator jeffrey kafer does a fine job.
