Pros

The book builds a complex world full of odd super-history. Though actually it's simpler than some of the big comic book story arcs.

Cons

Even so, the proceedings here are singularly lugubrious. They very nearly do it to themselves. Everything is just wrong.

Mystic has some nice moments, but that doesn't make up for it all ultimately coming to nothing. The prose is bland and the flow of the story is rocky. The narrative loves to go into plot dumps and exposition.

There is a lot of repetition. The author repeats ideas two or three times, mostly in sequential paragraphs. A writer needs to be able to establish and maintain two distinct narrative voices to bring this trick off.
