For the past 18 months i have been using the smsl sd793ii which sitting at £53
In comparison my dgx was too quiet even at 100

The sound quality has been great when using a spdif cable for input
I really like smsl products quite impressed with this really

Recommend using a separate power supply at 5v with at least 1000ma rating not included in package

Reviews on the uk site were all very positive however looking on the american amazon site i could see that a good number of people had problems with it either arriving dead or going dead within around a month or so

I worked out that you need to press the single button for a long time to switch it on and then press it quickly to switch it to the correct output

This is not at all obvious so it may be that some of the people complaining of it being dead on arrival had not worked this out

Now when i played 96 or 192khz files the little light changes indicating that it is actually receiving the digital audio at the correct frequency

However on windows also using vlc with the same hardware and despite choosing either direct audio or wave output with spdif output i could not make windows output the unaltered digital audio

So i had to install foobar2000 along with a plugin for it that allows direct ouput and then it worked
