There's a magnetic clasp for the main compartment, and this is reinforced with a very nice metal hook (pictured) the straps are easily adjustable, and he can sit on the bus seats without having to take it off and put it on again.

Cons

The design of this backpack generates uneven pressure on the laptop screen. This pressure point is obvious as you slide your hand down into the laptop compartment.
