The instructions manual let clear that the screw can be removed but it does not state the difference ot does by doing so

Finally the hold magnet must be installed in a position that does not allow the door to fully open otherwise it wont be strong enough to hold it

I installed in my screen door but you have to do some modification on the screen door but it work well for me
