My bike has cables running on the downtube but this item works well with the included spacers
I bought this with the idea of just putting it on when it was wet out

I may go back and add in a couple ties even though that isnt prevention if it is more difficult that will dissuade the casual thieves

I understand the purpose of them is to keep the fender off the cable controls to the brakes and shifter but they either are more effective on different models of bike frame or i somehow installed them in the four holes provided incorrectly and since there are four spacers and four holes i suspect the former

Overall this does exactly what it is supposed to do and at a very affordable price point that gets the job done without feeling cheap even if the method of securing it to the bike is cheap

If you are going to cut corners id prefer it there since if it didnt stop mud and rocks there would be no point
