They are either awkward to use, are too weak, messy to clean/empty, and don't work as well as they should.

Fortunately, shark seems to have done an excellent job with the pet perfect ii hand vac, although, it's not perfect.

It does use a filter that the manual recommends replacing every three months.

The motorized brush head isn't louder than the vacuum's motor, so you don't even know when it's on (you *can* see it spinning).
