I have a s8 and it clipped on just fine. There are 3 intensities, which can be changed by clicking the only button there is on the back. The first setting is all you need to take pictures in very dark or dim places.

I had to order a second one also though because midway through my 55 minute broadcast the light would die even though plugged into the ubs port
