Got as gift to use on kayak but ended up mounting on my bass boat on the front deck with the button holder
You can use the post for use with the standard scotty mounts
The rail with the openings might work for some uses but i think the cup would be better without that feature

I never thought id spend as much time as i have thinking about cup holders but the flip down style kept breaking on me or getting snagged
