    I'm guessing that regular mechanical engineers that designed the cutting mechanism and finance or marketing engineers designed the guide locking mechanism.

    I bought a second hand one in 1968 and it has worked great all of these years, limited use true, but still going strong until i gave it away when we moved because it was only 20 inch (bought m36).

    My special requirement of cutting see thru (very thin and fragile) silk bonded to paper backing works beautifully, after i read the instructions and watched the videos.
